Day 1 — Recognizing the Voices
Scripture
John 10:10–11 (NIV)
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”
Isaiah 30:21 (NIV)
“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’”
Psalm 119:105 (NIV)
“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”
Reflection
There are a lot of voices competing for our attention every day. Some promise comfort. Some promise control. Some promise success or escape. But not every voice is leading us somewhere good.
Jesus says the thief steals life, while He leads us toward real life. Sometimes what pulls us away from God doesn’t look dangerous at first—it just slowly becomes louder than His voice.
The invitation of Jesus is simple: Come back. Come back to the One who actually cares for you.
Questions
What has been pulling at my attention lately?
What voice do I tend to follow when I’m stressed or overwhelmed?
How can I make space to hear Jesus more clearly this week?
Prayer
Good Shepherd, there are so many things competing for my attention.
Help me recognize what is leading me away from You.
Teach me to trust Your voice above every other voice.
Day 2 — When Sin Feels Comfortable
Scripture
Genesis 4:7 (NIV)
“If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”
1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV)
“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
James 1:14–15 (NIV)
“But each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.”
Reflection
Sin rarely begins with something obvious. Often it starts small—an attitude, a compromise, a distraction, a habit we justify because it feels comforting or manageable.
God warned Cain that sin was waiting at the door, ready to pull him somewhere destructive. The same is true for us. But temptation does not have to control us.
Jesus invites us to turn around before the drift becomes distance.
Questions
What is one small compromise I’ve been excusing lately?
Why does that thing feel comforting or safe to me?
What would it look like to turn back toward Jesus today?
Prayer
Breath Prayer:
Carry this prayer with you whenever you feel pulled toward old habits or unhealthy patterns.
Inhale: Jesus my Shepherd
Exhale: Lead me back home
Day 3 — What Can Actually Hold You?
Scripture
Psalm 20:7 (NIV)
“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.”
Proverbs 3:5–6 (NIV)
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.”
Hebrews 13:8 (NIV)
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
Reflection
We all place our trust somewhere. Sometimes it’s money, achievement, relationships, routines, or our ability to stay in control. Those things can feel dependable—until life gets difficult.
Jesus challenges us to ask what we’re truly relying on. The things we lean on most will eventually shape the direction of our lives.
Only Jesus can carry the full weight of our trust.
Questions
What do I usually run to when life feels uncertain?
What makes that thing feel dependable to me?
How would my life look different if I trusted Jesus more deeply?
Prayer
Faithful God, I confess that I often place my trust in temporary things.
Help me remember that You are steady even when life feels uncertain.
Lead me toward deeper trust in You.
Day 4 — The Shepherd Who Comes After You
Scripture
Luke 15:4–5 (NIV)
“Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?
And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home.”
Psalm 23:1–3 (NIV)
“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.”
Ezekiel 34:11–12 (NIV)
“‘For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I myself will search for my sheep and look after them. As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after my sheep. I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on a day of clouds and darkness.’”
Reflection
Jesus does not give up on wandering people. He moves toward them.
Maybe you’ve felt distant from God lately. Maybe life has become noisy, complicated, or spiritually dry. The story of the lost sheep reminds us that Jesus is not waiting for perfect people—He is pursuing people who need Him.
You don’t have to stay lost to come back.
Questions
Have I felt distant from God recently?
What has contributed to that distance?
What is one practical way I can reconnect with Jesus this week?
Prayer
Breath Prayer:
Use this prayer when you feel overwhelmed, distant, or unsure where to turn.
Inhale: God who sees me
Exhale: Bring me close again
Day 5 — Known By the Shepherd
Scripture
John 10:14–15 (NIV)
“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep.”
Psalm 139:1–4 (NIV)
“You have searched me, Lord, and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue
you, Lord, know it completely.”
Romans 8:38–39 (NIV)
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,
neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Reflection
One of the most powerful things Jesus says is that He knows His sheep. Not generally. Personally.
Jesus knows your fears, your struggles, your questions, and the parts of your story you rarely talk about. And still, He chooses to love you, pursue you, and lead you.
You do not have to earn your way back to Him. The Good Shepherd is already calling you by name.
Questions
What does it mean to me that Jesus truly knows me?
What keeps me from drawing closer to Him?
How can I spend more intentional time with Jesus this week?
Prayer
Shepherd King, thank You for knowing me fully and loving me completely.
Help me follow Your voice instead of every distraction pulling at me.
Teach me to walk closely with You each day.
As you move through this week, remember that Jesus is still calling people back to Himself.
