We don’t usually mean to hide. We just get busy. We push through stress, frustration, and distance without really paying attention to what’s happening inside. But what we ignore doesn’t stay small—it shapes us. Jesus doesn’t bring things into the light to shame us, but to heal us.
Opening Prayer
God, thank You for bringing us together. Help us slow down and be honest about what’s really going on inside us. Give us courage to bring those things into Your light. Amen.
Conversation Starters
Option A (Light)
What’s something small that can affect your mood more than it probably should?
Option B (Deeper)
When you feel stressed or overwhelmed, what’s your default response—push through, distract yourself, or talk it out?
Scripture
John 8:12 (NIV)
"When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'"
1 John 1:5–7 (NIV)
"This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.
Discussion Questions
What stands out to you from these passages about light and darkness?
Why do you think it’s easy to ignore what’s happening in our hearts?
Where do you see yourself “managing” instead of bringing things to God?
How does what we ignore end up shaping us over time?
Real Life Application
What’s one area of your life right now that you’ve been avoiding or not paying attention to?
What would it look like to bring that honestly to God this week?
Is there someone you trust you could share that with so you’re not carrying it alone?
Closing Prayer
God, You already see what’s real in us. Thank You that You don’t turn away.
Give us the courage to stop hiding and the honesty to bring everything into Your light. Heal what we’ve been managing on our own.
We trust that Your light brings life. Amen.
Next Steps
Pay attention this week to moments when you feel stressed, distant, or frustrated.
Instead of pushing through, pause and ask: “What’s really going on inside me right now?”
Then bring that to God—honestly.
If this stirred something in you, don’t ignore it. Talk with someone this week—or join us Sunday as we continue following Jesus together
